Celebrating 100 Years: Milwaukee Wiener House, Famous Since 1918

Milwaukee Wiener House is a local, family owned hot dog shop that has been serving customers from their store in Downtown Sioux City, Iowa for 100 years. The store opened in 1918 at 404 4th Street, near the Milwaukee Railroad line. Today, brothers John and Mike Eliades maintain this legacy at 301 Douglas Street, where they relocated in 2013. People visiting will see a new sign on the building to forever commemorate this centennial accomplishment within the Milwaukee Wiener House logo. Celebrating 100 years of business is something they are both very proud of states Mike, “We are looking forward to celebrating this milestone with our family, friends and customers over the years.”
The 100-year celebration will take place the week of October 22nd through October 26th. Kicking off the festivities will be the installation of a commemorative street sign. The City of Sioux City will honor Milwaukee Wiener House by placing a ‘MIL WIENER ST’ street sign at 301 Douglas Street on Friday, October 19th. The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting on that day at 11:00 a.m. where the week’s events will also be announced. Milwaukee Wiener House opened in Sioux City, Iowa in 1918 at 404 4th Street, near the Milwaukee Railroad line. It was purchased by Tom Eliades and Gus Demetroulis in 1960 at 314 4th Street. The Pearl Street location, 309 Pearl, opened in 1974. In 1995 and 2000, Tom’s sons, John and Mike, became co-owners of the restaurant. When Tom Eliades retired in 2000, followed by Demetroulis in 2004, John and Mike continued to operate the business from the Pearl Street location until the move in 2013 into a newly constructed building at 301 Douglas Street.
