September 24 – 30, 2018 is the Week of the Deaf in Iowa

Join us in celebrating the Week of the Deaf
Week of the Deaf 2018 Proclamation

The wording in the Proclamation is as follows:
“State of Iowa, Executive Department in the name and by the Authority of the State of Iowa: Proclamation

WHEREAS, over 113,000 deaf and hard of hearing individuals live in Iowa; and

WHEREAS, the State of Iowa benefits from the many contributions of deaf and hard of hearing Iowans who are students, parents, employees, and community leaders; and

WHEREAS, Iowa is enriched by the diversity of the deaf and hard of hearing community, their language, and their culture; and

WHEREAS, Iowa believes that citizens who are deaf and hard of hearing deserve equal access, opportunities, and reasonable accommodations to ensure their success; and

WHEREAS, the Deaf Services Commission of Iowa, Iowa Association of the Deaf, the World Federation of the Deaf, the National Association of the Deaf and other Iowans jointly observe International Week of the Deaf to raise awareness of the issues and culture of the individuals who are Deaf and hard of hearing:

NOW, THEREFORE, I Kim Reynolds, Governor of the State of Iowa, do hereby proclaim September 24 – 30, 2018 as Week of the Deaf.”
