Wayne State College Students Commit To Service-Learning for the Elkhorn Valley Museum / Estudiantes de WSC comprometidos con proyecto de El Museo Elkhorn Valley
Wayne, NE, Dec. 10, 2018 — Wayne State College undergraduate and graduate business students completed a service-learning project for the Elkhorn Valley Museum and presented the museum with ideas for new activities to help expand community involvement.
Students learned more about the museum and agreed to partner with Elkhorn Valley Museum to help find new and creative ways to bring individuals to the museum’s doorsteps. Students brainstormed ideas on how to expand the museum’s outreach on social media, incorporate a Día de los Muertos event, host a fun run, and offer invitations for various other activities the museum could host for the community to attend.
This Wayne State College service-learning project allowed students to show the skills they learned in class into a real-life situation while supporting a non-profit museum dedicated to preserving history for future generations.
The Elkhorn Valley Museum has been a part of the community of Norfolk for more than 60 years. Museum organizers continue to strive to preserve the history of the area for future generations. The museum houses more than 10,000 artifacts and provides opportunities for children to make discoveries and to play through a hands-on approach in the midst of many of the areas.
