Advanced Cardiac Life Support Renewal course to be held at Northeast Community College

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College will offerAdvanced Cardiac Life Support Renewal courses in September.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Renewal (HLTH 5505/16S & CRN #70201) will be heldThursday, March 3. The course (HLTH 5505/16S & CRN #70202) will be held again onThursday, March 24, with the third class (HLTH 5505/16S & CRN #70203) to be held on Wednesday, March 30. All three classes will be held from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Faith Regional Health Services, 2700 W. Norfolk Avenue in Norfolk.

The ACLS Renewal course is open to those healthcare professionals who have completed the ACLS Provider Course within the last two years and have a current Basic Life Support card. Pre-course Requirements: Review of Manual, review of information on student CD, completion of ACLS Pre-course Self-Assessment test. Participants are asked to print their test score and bring to class. In addition, please bring your current BLS CPR card.

New course at Northeast explore authentic writing for business

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a new course in authentic writing next month.

Authentic Writing for Business, Blogging, and More (ENGL 5105/16S & CRN #70078) will be held Saturday, February 27 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center (LLC). Audrey Fisher is the instructor.

With the explosion of social media and the masses around the world posting and tweeting their every thought and action, sharing of one’s self is becoming socially accepted and even expected. In this course, business owners will learn about opportunities that arise when they learn to authentically share about themselves and their businesses. Students will learn how sharing personal stories is actually good for business, and how letting people get to know them will create interest and loyalty  to both themselves and their businesses.

Northeast to provide more EMS workshops in area communities

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College in Norfolk has announced several free, one-session workshops for emergency medical service technicians in the area during the month of February.

The workshops are offered for three continuing education credits. They will be held from 7-10 p.m. All workshops will be conducted in local fire halls.

There is no need to pre-register. The workshops, dates and locations include:

Quickbooks class to be held at Northeast Community College in Norfolk

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer an introductory course in Quickbooks 2014 in March.

Quickbooks 2014, Level 1 (ACCT 5100/16S & CRN #70079) will be held Monday, February 29, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center (LLC). Jeanne Bergstrom is the instructor.

The course covers the basics of setting up a company, creating customers, receiving payments and making deposits into bank accounts. Students will work with and create vendors and paying bills as well as create and edit a chart of accounts for their companies, run reports and reconcile bank accounts.

Cost is $60.

Digital photo editing class to be held at Northeast Community College in South Sioux City

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City will hold a class to assist students with digital photo editing.

Digital Photo Editing I (ARTS 5115/16S & CRN #70241) will meet Monday, February 29 and Wednesday, March 2in Room 135, at the College Center, 1001 College Way.

In this course, students will discover techniques to improve photos taken with a digital camera or photos scanned to a computer. Topics covered included removing red eye, cropping, creating collage, changing colors pictures to black and white, coloring isolated area, tinting pictures and adding text.

Students are required to bring their laptops with their editing software and loaded photos with them to the class.

Cost of the class, with Fritz Burow the instructor, is $30.

Pediatric CPR/AED/FA course coming to Northeast in South Sioux City

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City will offer a pediatric health class later this month.

Heartsaver Pediatric CPR/AED/FA (HLTH 5100/16S & CRN #70214) will be heldSaturday, February 27 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., in Room 214A in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 1001 College Way.

The course is designed to meet the regulatory requirements for childcare workers. It teaches childcare providers and others to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the few minutes until professional help arrives. It covers the four steps of first aid and first aid skills, such as finding the problem, stopping bleeding, bandaging and using an Epinephrine pen, as well as child CPR AED, infant CPR and optional modules in adult CPR AED, child mask, infant mask and Asthma Care Training for Child Care Providers.

Cost of the class, with Kevin Garvin the instructor, is $80. The required textbook is available at the College Center bookstore.

Truck driving class to be offered by Northeast Community College in South Sioux City

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City will offer a 12 weekend Professional Truck Driving class that will begin in March.

The course (TRDR 1500/16S & CRN #70340/70341) will be held Fridays-Sundays,March 4-May 29, in Room 132 in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 1001 College Way. The class will meet Friday evenings from 6-10 p.m. and Saturday and Sundays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The professional truck driving field ranks among the top professions in the number of job openings each year. Reports estimate that approximately 225,000 new drivers will be needed in the next few years. Starting salaries for truck drivers in Nebraska is $35,000-$50,000 a year.

In this course, students will learn to operate articulated vehicles in a training environment that includes driving on city streets, two-lane, and interstate highways.

Students must be at least 18-years of age, pass a Department of Transportation physical examination, and have a valid driver’s license and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) learner’s permit. A copy of driving record for the past three years is also required. According to federal regulation, drivers must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with the public and government officials. The COMPASS/ESL test will be provided.

Cost for the course, with Rodney Warnock the instructor, is $1,995. Textbook for the class, which is available at the College Center bookstore, is $96.19.
