Northeast to host crochet classes for kids and adults in Wausa

HARTINGTON – The Hartington regional office of Northeast Community College will offer crochet classes for adults and kids in Wausa later this month.

Basic Crochet for Beginners – Winter Ear Warmers (HOEC 5130/17S & CRN #70330) will be held Thursday, February 9, from 4-6 p.m. in Hartington at the Lied Lincoln Township Library, 105 Hampton St., in Wausa.

Suitable for children in grades three through eight, this class will teach participants how to read a pattern as they receive hands-on instruction to complete a project. Participants will make winter ear warmers. Supplies that will need to be brought to class include a “K” crochet hook, one skein of Red Heart yarn in your choice of color and scissors.

Crochet – Winter Pom-Pom Hat (HOEC 5130/17S & CRN #70331) will be held on the same day from 6:15-8:15 p.m. in the same location.

In this class, participants will make a winter pom-pom hat as they learn to read a pattern and receive hands-on instruction. Supplies participants will need to bring to class include an “N” crochet hook, two skeins of Lion Brand Hometown USA or Lion Brand Wool-ease yarn in your choice of color and scissors.

Cost for each class, with Rebecca Baehr the instructor, is $20.

Northeast to provide more EMS workshops in area communities

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College in Norfolk has announced several free, one-session workshops for emergency medical service technicians in the area during the month of February.

The workshops are offered for three continuing education credits. They will be held from 7-10 p.m. All workshops will be conducted in local fire halls.

There is no need to pre-register. The workshops, dates and locations include:

Northeast to offer first aid courses

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will courses in pediatric first aid and general first aid later this month.

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid & CPR/AED (HLTH 5100/17S & CRN #70096) will meet Saturday, February 18, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth Building, Room 101, on the Norfolk campus.

The course is designed to meet the regulatory requirements for child care workers. It teaches child care providers and others to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. It covers the four steps of first aid and first aid skills such as finding the problem, stopping bleeding, bandaging and using an Epinephrine pen as well as child CPR/AED, infant CPR and optional modules in adult CPR/AED, child mask, infant mask and asthma care training for child care providers.

Cost of the course, with instructor Bradley Korth, is $80.

Heartsaver First Aid (HLTH 5105/17S & CRN #70101) will be held Wednesday, February 22, from 6-10 p.m., in the Arlo Wirth Building, Room 101.

The First Aid teaches how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Course content includes general principles, medical emergencies and injury emergencies. This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn these important lifesaving skills, and for those who have a duty to respond to a first aid or cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. A Heartsaver First Aid certification card will be issued upon successful completion.

Cost of the course, with Bradley Korth the instructor, is $40.

Northeast Community College to offer CPR/AED on-line and skills session

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer another Heart Code – Healthcare Provider CPR/AED On-line Skills Session.

The first portion of this course (HLTH 5300/17S & CRN #70097) is web-based and is available on-line
24 hours a day. The skills session meets Wednesday, February 22, from 6-10 p.m., in the Ag/Allied Health building, Room 133, on the Norfolk campus.

The Basic Life Support course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking. This course is designed for the first time or renewal certification and has two parts for completion.

Part 1 provides a flexible alternative to classroom training. Part 2 is a skills session where hands on practice and competency testing are completed with a Certified AHA Instructor. When online Part 1 is completed, students will register for the Skills Sessions. Participants are to bring their online completion certificate (Part 1 completed within the last 60 days) to the Skills Session for which they have registered.

Online key codes for Part 1 are available at the Hawks Shop in the Student Center on the Norfolk campus, (402) 844-7140. NOTE: Participants need to bring their AHA Part 1 Health Care Provider Online Course Completion Certificate to be admitted to the Skills Session. No textbook is required for this class.

Northeast Community College to offer online and skills heartsaver course

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer additional Heart Code – Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid On-line Skills Sessions.

Three testing sessions Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid (HLTH 5130/17S & CRN #70100; Heartsaver CPR/AED – Adult, Infant and Child (HLTH 5150/17S & CRN #70098); Heartsaver First Aid (HLTH 5105/17S & CRN #70099) will be held Wednesday, February 22, from 6-10 p.m. in the Ag/Allied Health building, Room 135, on the Norfolk campus.

The Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid course CPR/AED (testing sessions will cover any of the combinations as listed above) – teaching rescuers to recognize and treat cardiac arrest and choking for adults, children and infant victims, use an AED and First Aid – teaching management of certain environmental reactions; allergic reactions, cuts, wounds, bites, and various situations requiring treatments.

The on-line course is designed for the first time or renewal certification.  This course is accessible 24 hours a day and provides a flexible alternative to classroom training for the course itself. After completing this course, students are eligible to register for the testing session. QuickBooks classes to be held at Northeast Community College in O’Neill

O’NEILL – Northeast Community College in O’Neill will hold two QuickBooks classes in February and March.

QuickBooks Level I (ACCT 5100/17S & CRN #70086) will meet Thursday, February 23, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in Room122 of Northeast Community College in O’Neill, 505 East Highway 20.

This course covers the basics of setting up a company; creating customers; receiving payments; and making deposits into bank accounts. Participants will work with and create vendors and paying bills as well as create and edit a chart of accounts for your company, run reports and reconcile bank accounts.

QuickBooks Level II (ACCT 5300/17S & CRN #70090) will be held Thursday, March 16, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the same location.

This course covers creating inventory, dealing with items and adjusting inventory counts on a continual basis. Participants will learn about sales tax and sales tax groups, paying sales tax, running payroll and paying payroll liabilities. They will create capital assets and utilize the loan manager to generate an amortization schedule. Dealing with bad debt and creating journal entries will also be covered.

IPhone, IPad, iPod Touch course to be held at Northeast Community College in O’Neill

O’NEILL – Northeast Community College in O’Neill will offer a course exploring iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch later this month.

iPhone, iPad and IPod Touch (INFO 5160/17S & CRN #70328) will be held Wednesday, February 22, from 6-9 p.m. at the in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 505 Highway 20,
Room 104.

Students will discover how to use an iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch for e-mailing, browsing the web, managing time, getting directions, taking notes, taking photos and listening to music. Free applications that can be downloaded to students’ devices will also be discussed.

Participants should know their Apple, iTunes, or iCloud ID and password for the class. Cost for the course, with Joel Steinhauser the instructor, is $30.

Northeast Community College to offer core fitness class in O’Neill

O’NEILL–Northeast Community College in O’Neill will offer a class beginning this month that constructs muscle, manages middles and builds endurance from head to toe.

Participants can choose from two sessions for Core Construction. The first option (HPER 5135/17S & CRN #70314) meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 14-March 16, from 12:00-12:45 p.m. The second option (HPER 5135/17S & CRN #70315) will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays,February 14-March 16, from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Both classes meet in Room 131 of the Northeast O’Neill campus, 505 East Highway 20.

In this class, participants will strengthen their abdominal and back muscles with core enhancing Pilates exercises and strength building yoga poses. Regardless of fitness level, participants will improve their flexibility and balances. Each class session will end with a total body stretch and relaxation as well.

Northeast Community College to offer core fitness class in O’Neill

O’NEILL– Northeast Community College in O’Neill will offer a new class for anyone interested in learning how to play one of the most popular poker games in the world.

Texas Hold’em for Beginners (HORC 5135/17S & CRN #70328) will be held Monday and Tuesday, February 20-21, from 7-9 p.m., at the in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus,
505 Highway 20, Room 132.

This class is a great way to learn how to play this exciting game so you can join in on the card groups in your community. In the class, participants will discover the object of the game and the card values, and gain a better understanding of the rules and strategies of betting in poker. Instructors Kay Stepp and Ellen Boshart will make this a fun and entertaining class for beginners.
