Mobley & Jorge named ICCAC Athletes of the Week

NORFOLK – Two Northeast Community College basketball players have been recognized for their performance this past week.

Jalen Mobley Saint Paul, MN, has been named Division I Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The Hawks’ Cynthia Jorge, Canary Islands, Spain, received the same recognition in Division I women’s basketball.

The Northeast men’s team went 2-0 for the week, defeating conference rivals Iowa Western Community College and Marshalltown Community College. Sophomore guard Mobley led the way, averaging 17 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals for the week. In the Hawks’ 83-80 win over Iowa Western, Mobley put up a team-high 14 points. Against Marshalltown, Mobley recorded a team-high 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists as well as a season-high six steals on the defensive end.

Northeast snapped their four-game win streak in last night’s loss to Indian Hills Community College, 68-62. The Hawks are 17-6 on the season.

Meanwhile, the Northeast women’s team won their only game of last week, defeating conference rival Marshalltown, 102-46. Sophomore guard Jorge came off the bench to scoring a game-high 20 points along with seven rebounds and four assists. Jorge shot 9-12 from the field and 2-3 from the line.

Northeast is currently 21-2 on the season after Wednesday’s 100-60 victory over Concordia University JV.

In the previous week, Northeast’s sophomore forward Vance Johnson, Chicago, IL, and freshman forward Mykala Baylor, South Bend, IN, were named ICCAC Men’s and Women’s Athlete of the Week, respectively.

Both teams will play in road games this weekend. The women will face North Platte Community College in North Platte on Friday at 1 p.m. On Saturday, the men’s team will travel to Burlington, IA, to face Southeastern Community College at 7 p.m.
