Heartland Workers Center’s Political Conventions to Celebrate 10 years of Building a Community that Works for All in five communities in five days (English & Spanish Version)
OMAHA, NEBRASKA
WHAT: During its 3rd Biennial Nonpartisan Political Convention, 10 years of Building a Community that Works for all, the Heartland Workers Center will host five conventions in the communities where it is working across eastern Nebraska. For us, politics does not mean political parties, but rather, stems from the Greek word “πολιτικός (politikos)” which means “of, for, or relating to citizens”, “civil”, “civic”, “belonging to the state”.
With this understanding, participants at this year’s conventions will discuss the organizing work taken over the past year to build power for positive community changes. The convention also will feature a keynote address in each community, followed with a call to action for all participants. During this part, participants will have the opportunity to engage with one another and look at ways they can participate in 2020, particularly with the upcoming Presidential Elections and Decennial Census.

WHO: Attendees will include community members each of the communities where we are working. In addition, public officials and representatives from stakeholder community organizations also have been invited to hear about the issues facing the community and make a public commitment with grassroots leaders to build relationships and collectively address these issues in 2020.

Convenciones políticas del Heartland Workers Center para celebrar 10 años de construir una comunidad que funcione para todos en cinco comunidades en cinco días.
OMAHA, NEBRASKA
QUÉ: Durante su tercera Convención Política Bienal No Partidista, a 10 años de construir una comunidad que funcione para todos, el Heartland Workers Center organizará cinco convenciones en las comunidades donde trabaja en el este de Nebraska. Para nosotros, política no significa partidos políticos, sino que se deriva de la palabra griega “πολιτικός (politikos)” que significa “de, para, o en relación con los ciudadanos”, “civil”, “cívico”, “perteneciente al estado “.
